Clear, professional websites for service businesses.
I design and build straightforward, developer-led websites for established service businesses and independent professionals who need a clearer, stronger online presence.
Based in the Wellington region and available for projects across New Zealand.
- The offer
- Complete Website Package
- Founding-client price
- NZD $1,500
- Typical timeline
- 3 to 5 weeks
- Developer-led
- Planning through to launch
A website has about ten seconds to answer four questions.
Someone lands on your site, usually on a phone, usually while comparing you against two other options. If they cannot work these out quickly, they leave and you never know they were there.
- What the business offers
- Who it helps
- Why it can be trusted
- What to do next
What usually gets in the way
The website is out of date
It was built years ago, it no longer matches the work you do now, and you are quietly hoping people do not look at it too closely.
Nobody can tell what you offer
The services are there somewhere, but they are buried, worded inconsistently, or spread across pages in an order that made sense to whoever built it.
There is no obvious way to get in touch
An email address in the footer is not an enquiry path. People need to know what happens next and be able to start it in one click.

Established service businesses and independent professionals.
I work with established service businesses and independent professionals whose current website no longer represents the quality of the service they provide.
- Health and wellness professionals
- Physiotherapists and allied health
- Personal trainers and fitness studios
- Massage, bodywork and movement studios
- Coaches and consultants
- Professional-service firms
- Tradespeople and local services
- Training and education providers
- Creative and specialist independents
I am currently giving particular attention to established health, fitness and wellness businesses in the Wellington region, while continuing to consider suitable service-business projects elsewhere.
Check whether your project is a good fitDesign backed by real development experience.
I bring a professional software-development background to every website project. That means I understand both the visible website and the systems behind it, not only how to arrange content on a page.
I handle the planning, design, development, testing and launch directly. When something behaves unexpectedly, needs to connect properly or requires a technical decision, the person solving it is the same person responsible for the rest of the project.
Technical judgement
I evaluate what the website actually needs, choose a sensible solution and avoid adding tools or complexity without a clear reason.
Reliable implementation
Responsive behaviour, forms, analytics, accessibility and launch details are treated as part of the build rather than afterthoughts.
Maintainable structure
The website should remain understandable, editable and sensible after it has been handed over.
Direct problem-solving
You are not passed from a salesperson to an account manager and then to an anonymous developer.
Five steps, and you always know which one you are on.
No long silences and no vague middle stage.

What working with me is actually like.
I have no client testimonials to show you yet, so here is the next most useful thing: exactly how I work, stated plainly enough that you can hold me to it.
You talk to the person doing the work
No account manager relaying messages, no team you never meet. You send a question, I answer it.
The scope is written down
Pages, inclusions, revision rounds, payment schedule and price are agreed in writing before anything starts. If a request falls outside it, I tell you before I act on it, not after.
Mobile is designed first
Most of your visitors will be on a phone, so that is where the layout decisions start rather than where they get squeezed in at the end.
Practical over clever
If a simpler solution does the job, that is the one I build. Websites that are complicated to run tend to stop being run.
Honest recommendations
If you do not need something, I will say so, including when that means a smaller project. If your site is fine and only needs a tidy-up, I will tell you that too.
Modern tools, used with judgment
I use current tooling, including AI where it genuinely speeds up the routine parts. The structure, the design decisions and the final quality are mine.
The first projects are being built.
I am currently building the first collection of projects for this focused service. Each future case study will explain the challenge, my role, the decisions made and the final outcome.
Interested in becoming a founding client?
Founding-client projects are offered at NZD $1,500 while I refine the delivery process and build the first collection of completed projects for this focused service. The scope, process and professional standard remain the same.
- The Complete Website Package at NZD $1,500 rather than the NZD $2,500 standard price
- The same scope, process and standard as any later project
- Direct access to me throughout, with no account management layer
- Where a completed project is suitable for a case study, permission to publish it is agreed separately — a testimonial is never required
I am Lars.
I am a website designer and software developer based in the Wellington region of New Zealand. I help service businesses turn scattered ideas and outdated websites into clear, professional online experiences.
My background combines professional software development with hands-on work on websites and digital platforms, alongside project coordination and remote collaboration across time zones. That combination is why I tend to start with structure and decisions rather than with visuals.
The websites I build are meant to be lived with. Straightforward to update, easy to explain to someone else, and still sensible in two years.
Learn more about meThe things people ask first.
Do I need all my content ready before we start?
No. Most people do not have it ready, and waiting until you do is the main reason website projects stall. We work out the structure first, which tells you exactly what to write and how much. I will organise and lightly edit what you send, and I can point out the gaps as we go.
How long does the project take?
Most suitable projects take approximately three to five weeks. The timeline depends partly on how quickly the required content, account access, feedback and decisions are provided. The build itself is rarely the slow part. If your project looks likely to take longer, I will tell you before we start rather than partway through.
Do you only work with health and wellness businesses?
No. I work with established service businesses and independent professionals across several sectors. I am currently giving particular attention to health, fitness and wellness businesses, but I also consider other suitable projects.
Are hosting and domain costs included?
No. Hosting, domain registration and any premium software or plugin licences are billed to you directly by those providers, so you own them outright and are never locked in through me. I will recommend options and set everything up, and the ongoing costs are usually modest.
